At 58 years old, Fernando Castro has gained notoriety and an acclaimed following through the many galleries in Rio de Janiero and throughout Brazil.
A self taught painter, sculptor & artista plastico (an artist professional who reveals his artistic feeling through diverse materials and forms of expression) as student and master, he is considered one of the greatest interpreters of the human and animal figure. Among the many awards bestowed on Castro and his work over his 20+ year career is his distinguished recognition in the salons of Minieros.
He was chosen from dozens of artists to design the cover of the Minas Gerais Tourist Guide in 1985 and 1990. In 1993 Castro was commissioned to design an interpretive portfolio of illustrations for pages in "Imagination and Reality, by São Paolo poet Clementina Simões.
It has recently been cited by Valmir Matos of Alphaville Galeria de Artes in Rio de Janiero, "In my travels throughout the many galleries and salons in Brazil, one of the most rewarding things was to have known his paintings."
